EMI-Scanner system for whole body: Following the worldwide success of the EMI-Scanner brain X-ray system, which has a current sales level of £25 million per annum, EMI is now to develop another computerised X-ray system for examination of all parts of the body. Although the system is still only at the prototype stage, with clinical trials scheduled for certain UK and overseas hospitals, it is most probable that the system to be marketed will be built around a Data General minicomputer. The new system is designed to provide highly-detailed pictures of such organs as lungs, pancreas and kidneys. In the Scanner system, information gathered during a medical examination is fed to a Data General 820 minicomputer which uses the 28,000 readings taken from each layer of the brain to calculate a picture. This is displayed on a CRT. (CW 439 3/4/1975 p7)
